We continue to engage with the fight for Palestinian liberation by turning to the words of Palestinian writers themselves. Nowhere can we find more powerful expressions of resistance and the will to endure. Gather online with us to read, think, grieve, take solace and take action.
We will meet online November 20th, Sunday at 5pm London and 12pm New York times. Writer and activist Ahmed Alnaouq will join us to talk about the boo\k.

This book club is part of Read Palestine Week organized by the Publishers for Palestine. These are seven days when people around the world read – publicly and in community – as part of the global resistance to the genocide of the Palestinian people. To this end, publishers, librarians, & booksellers will share free reads, host events, and recommend books. This year, we will have a particular focus on raising funds to support Palestinian writers in Gaza.
About the book
We Are Not Numbers: The Voices of Gaza’s Youth is a collection of writings assembled by WANN (We Are Not Numbers) co-founders Ahmed Alnaouq and Pam Bailey. The 75 essays in this collection are not just reflections on occupation. They are records of memory, family, exile, friendship, resistance, and hope—raw and unfiltered. Spanning 2015 to present day, these are the stories of young people from Gaza, born under Israeli occupation and blockade. They are people who have endured unspeakable struggles and losses, who keep fighting to be recognised not as numbers, but as human beings with hopes, dreams and lives worth living.

He grew up in Gaza, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from al-Azher University, but currently he is based in London. He later won the UK’s prestigious Chevening scholarship and earned a Master’s degree in international journalism from Leeds University. Writer, scholar, and educator Sunny Singh explains that everything she does “centers around finding ways to undo empire.” The world we have inherited is “an ongoing colonial project” and thus “the wars, the genocides that we’re watching now, are still the same colonial wars.”
"The people of Gaza did not give up, they did not surrender." - Haidar Eid
“I spent the first two months of the genocide in Gaza,” writer, professor and activist Haidar Eid explains. “In Gaza itself, I was displaced three times.” After being evacuated in December 2023, Eid went from Gaza to South Africa, which became his “fourth displacement.” He is now based on Johannesburg and we start …
Uncovering histories of the targeting and policing of Muslims in Kenya
Kenya’s Muslim population has “long experienced political and economic marginalization” says Samar Al-Bulushi, anthropologist and author of War-Making as Worldmaking: Kenya, United States and the War on Terror. Samar traces a rather under-explored contemporary history; that of Kenya’s role in the US-l…
Palestine has made radical solidarities possible
The Gaza ceasefire plan shocks and scathes, and makes clear that peace only means more war. Masterminded by brutes who lord over tyrannical regimes — Israel and the US — it is a raw deal of epic proportions. The terms of it are so grotesquely unfair a…
